The failing economy that we are all experiencing now has effected everyone, including the tourists going to Hawaii. The islands are well known for their sun and warm beaches and water not to mention the surfing on their long list of entertaining things to do. But now the island are considering to add slots to that list. Lawmakers are now looking for ways to increase their revenue with their billion dollar budget deficits.
Casinos would create lots of needed new jobs and help the troubled tourism that is going on now. Their thought is that the tourists who travel from Asia to Las Vegas, will then choose the shorter trip to stop half was in Hawaii to do their gambling. This will shorten their flight and they will then experience a Luau and hula dancing besides gambling while on the island.
There are residents of Hawaii who make a few trips a year to the main land for gambling in Vegas. Bringing slots to Hawaii would save them that long trip as they would drive or take a bus to the nearest casino. Some want to keep the island family-friendly and avoid the crime and problems that gambling is already knows to attract. People go to Hawaii to enjoy the outdoors and casinos can be found all over the world.
