Horse Racing Begins

Horse racing is a popular sport today and is found all over the world.  It began way back with the nomadic tribesmen in the year 4500BC and although it is changed in many ways, it is still a favorite to many.  Chariot races were being run in the year 638BC and the Greek Olympics had mounted horse racing events.

The Roman Empire was also well known for their horse racing.  Back in those days, this event  was only for nobility and today it is now the second favorite sport in American, which puts it second only to the game of Baseball.   Do you wonder what it is that draws fans and gamblers to an oval track to watch the jockey and an amazing animal work together?  People not only gather at race tracks but they also head to bars and pubs too to watch the event on TV if they cannot get themselves to the actual track.

Could it be tradition?  Maybe it is the power of the sport that draws them to this kind of race.  Some feel that it is a historic event of importance along with the social get together that happens with a day at the track.  Not only do the hooves go thundering past the fans but there is also legal gambling going on.
